Convenience and safety: why flights to the oil patch are taking off

James Wakulchyk has been a pilot since he went through the Air Cadets aviation scholarship program at the age of 17. “That was 1991 – you do the math,” he jokes. “I’d known I wanted to be a pilot since I was about six, and I have always loved it.”

These days, James flies with North Cariboo Air (NCA), a private air charter company, and he spends much of his time flying personnel in and out of Alberta’s oil patch.

How to lead safety culture from the top

There are many reasons why you want your organization to have a good safety culture. Practical ones include the legal ramifications and cost of incidents; and the fact that profitability and performance are higher in an incident-free workplace. More intrinsic reasons include the emotional and psychological effects on everyone involved when someone is injured.
