Resources and Tools

Enform provides a wide range of safety resources and tools to help prevent the most common injuries and illnesses in the petroleum industry.

Alcohol & Drugs
This section consists of tools and resources developed by Enform's Alcohol and Drug Task Force. These electronic resources include policy models, case summaries, Gap Analysis Matrix, an Alcohol and Drug Policy template, testing guide, as well as other online A&D resources that offer useful program advice, statistics, and more.

Driving
Enform launched a safe driving campaign that targets oil and gas industry drivers as well as their enablers and influencers (co-workers, family and friends who will resonate the importance of this message). The campaign's objective is to educate Alberta's oil and gas industry drivers, family and friends that it is a decision to drive safe.

Fatigue
Fatigue has been a recognized worker safety problem for some time, but many companies did not have fixed limits on the number of hours worked before a break was required. Even where limits were in place, workers who moved between sites, often driving long distances in between, were not always monitored.

To deal with this issue, Enform developed a series of tools: Fatigue Management 101 and Guide to Safe Work.

Green Hands for Green Hands
New or inexperienced workers (green hands) have twice the workplace injuries of experienced workers. Those under 24 years of age have a 60% chance of being injured in their first six months.
This program helps green hands through their high-risk period by identifying them with a green hand sticker on their hardhat so more experienced workers can watch out for them.

Inter-Provincial Workplace First Aid Requirements Planning Guide
All companies are responsible for ensuring that the appropriate number of personnel at a particular work site are trained in first aid. To help oil and gas companies understand these requirements in an inter-provincial environment in Western Canada, Enform has developed this planning guide. The guide lists first aid training requirements, the process for employers to have out-of-province first aid certificates recognized between BC and Alberta, and course equivalences being recognized in BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan. This document has been reviewed and approved by WorkSafeBC, Saskatchewan Labour and Work Safe Alberta.

Review of Canadian Upstream Petroleum Industry Fatalities (1995-2005)
This fatality review provides key personnel in the oil and gas industry, including operating managers, safety professionals and regulators, with insights into the historical industry fatality record and offers strategic direction to garget those issues that can lead to improvements in the upstream petroleum industry's safety record.

Review of Diesel Use in Pressure Wash Guns in the Upstream Petroleum Industry - (File size: 8 Megs)
The reason for the study is based on industry concerns over the potential for adverse health effects in workers from the exposure to diesel fluid and vapours.

Wellsite Supervisor
This IRP 7 initiative was sponsored by Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP), and then developed by Drilling and Completions Committee (DACC) to improve minimum standards for safety standards at the wellsite.
