Description
This program is designed for health and safety professionals with management/supervisory experience who wish to conduct internal (maintenance) or external safety management system audits. The program consists of a five-day training course and a practicum, which includes a full health and safety audit. The audit must be submitted within six months for review and approval prior to certification. A variety of instructional techniques are used throughout the program, including lectures, class discussions, case studies, group exercises and evening projects. Ethics and conflict of interest issues will also be discussed.
This course covers:
- Overview of health and safety auditing
- Auditing in the petroleum industry
- Review of the audit instrument
- Defining audit scope
- Organizing audit activities
- Initial on-site activities
- Reviewing audit documentation
- Conducting the interview process
- Conducting worksite observations
- Conducting on-site audit debriefing
- Processing audit data
- SECOR submission requirements
- Quality assurance process
- Maintaining professional competence
The Enform audit instrument is reviewed in detail throughout the course.
Following successful completion of the course and exam, a qualification audit must be submitted within six months for review by the Audit Review Sub-Committee. Once qualification is approved, a certificate will be issued, valid for three years.
To maintain certification, auditors must attend a one-day Certified Health and Safety Auditor Renewal course. This certification can be used to meet Certificate of Recognition (COR) internal audit requirements.
There are two auditor streams available: One is for auditor candidates who would like to become internal (maintenance) auditors, and the other is for auditor candidates who would like to become external auditors.
Upon completion of the course in the first stream, candidates will be able to perform internal audits for the company at which they are employed. Upon completion of the course in the second stream, candidates are required to meet much more stringent criteria. They should have a more in-depth knowledge of health, safety and loss control management systems.
