In recognition of Small Business Week (Oct 15-21), Enform is hosting a seminar designed for small employers in the oil and gas industry. If you run a small business, it is essential to focus on the prevention of injuries in your workplace, as even one recordable can cause your injury rate to go well above the acceptable industry average. We will discuss the top types of injuries in our industry and the numerous resources available to help you prevent them.

In addition, guest speaker Jody LaPlaca with Dynamic Services & Consulting Ltd will provide insight into how the major safety registries work and how to best navigate through their requirements. She will also clarify what a "recordable" injury is, explain how TRIF's are calculated, and suggest some possible remedial actions that may help keep your registry status favorable.

If you're a small business owner with clients in the oil and gas industry, you don't want to miss this workshop!

Safety Practitioner Meeting - Building a Stronger Road Safety Culture in Your Organization

Start: Wednesday, November 9, 2016 , 8:00 AM
End: Wednesday, November 9, 2016 , 11:30 AM

#2060, 9600 - 93rd Ave. Fort St. John, BC

Co-hosted by Enform, this interactive session is for oil and gas sector employers. It engages participants in conversations and activities that build practical understanding of what a safety culture is, how it drives safety performance, and what they can do to make positive contributions to a stronger, safer culture in their workplace.

Focusing on road safety, workshop materials explain what a safety culture is by describing the structural components and how those parts fit and function together. The presentation explains the value of a strong safety culture by showing the relationships between safety culture and safety results. Participants learn how all employees can be involved in building a stronger safety “fabric”. During hands-on group and individual activities, participants explore how they can apply those ideas in their organization.

Safety Stand Down is a designated time for CEOs, executives and senior managers to talk about safety issues directly with frontline supervisors and workers.  It can take place any time of year, at whatever location you choose and does not mean you have to shut down your operations.

Enform has created a number of resources that companies can use when holding a Safety Stand Down session.  These resources have been developed around this year's focus, which is to encourage discussion about the top three causes of injuries in the upstream oil and gas industry:  Being Struck by an Object, Overexertion and Slips, Trips and Falls.

Join Robert Waterhouse for an in-depth look at Enform's Safety Stand Down resources, learn about possible customized reports that provide company-specific injury and illness data, and to obtain some tips on how to make your next (or first!) Safety Stand Down event productive and powerful.

End: Tuesday, November 17, 2015 , 8:30 AM

Calgary Petroleum Club - 319 5 Avenue Southwest Calgary

These injuries have been determined using data from the Workers' Compensation Boards of British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. This year's Safety Stand Down resources provide information for industry to have a dialogue on preventing these injuries.

Safety Stand Down has been running for over a decade, and demonstrates industry's commitment to engaging both senior executives and the frontline workers in a discussion to prevent injuries and illnesses. This breakfast will prepare you to host your own Safety Stand Down, and will give you a better understanding of Enform's ability to use WCB to benefit your business.

Short Course in Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)

Start: Monday, November 9, 2015
End: Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Hotel Blackfoot - Calgary
Alberta

Biogenic vs Petrogenic Sources, Environmental Consequences and Regulatory Guidelines

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous contaminants in the environment. They are present in the air we breathe and the food we eat. PAHs are derived in natural processes, diagenic processes and largely from combustion processes. Their prevalence in the environment makes their understanding important for all environmental practitioners. PAHs are present in low percentage amounts in crude oil, making them important for those working in the oil industry as well.

This course will provide comprehensive coverage of many aspects of PAHs from fundamentals to advanced knowledge and usage of PAH data. The course will include structures and nomenclature, physical-chemical properties, analytical measurements, toxicity and risks, regulatory guidance, remediation and environmental forensics. The course is designed for all environmental practitioners including natural sciences and engineering professionals.
